Clean Air Overview

Tenneco's Clean Air business group is a global leader of complete emission systems. As emissions control solutions become more complex, their components must function interdependently. Integrating mechatronics and software into a range of emissions control components and systems is one way Tenneco is working to meet the challenge of delivering innovative, cost-effective and adaptable systems.

Our proprietary technologies are designed to lower harmful emissions and enable improved vehicle performance and fuel economy. We offer aftertreatment solutions that meet increasingly stringent emission regulations.

As the demand for hybridization grows, we continue to invest in technology and utilize our deep knowledge in emissions systems packaging, combustion and thermal management, materials science and thermo-electrical energy to deliver high quality solutions for our global customers.

Aftertreatment system Solutions

 

We engineer, design and manufacture Light Vehicle and Commercial Truck / Off-highway (CTOH) full-system solutions and enabling technologies that address customer needs for fuel economy, emission control and acoustic performance.

Emissions Control

We design advanced aftertreatment technologies to reduce criteria pollutants helping global engine manufacturers meet stringent emissions regulations, including Euro 6d and upcoming Euro 7, China 6 and Bharat 6. 

Emissions Control Products include Cold Start Thermal Unit (Active Heating), High Efficiency Urea Mixing, Fabricated Manifolds, Selective Catalytic Reduction, Gasoline and Diesel Particulate Filters, Close-Coupled Catalysts, Full Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems and Large Engine Aftertreatment +Dosing.

Fuel Economy

In a typical internal combustion engine, approximately 30 percent of the fuel energy is used for actual vehicle propulsion, while more than 70 percent is lost - about half of it through the vehicle's exhaust system. Tenneco’s Clean Air technologies enable overall vehicle efficiency improvements by recycling waste and converting it into energy.

Fuel Economy and Thermal Management products including Exhaust Heat Recovery Systems, Lightweight Compact Systems, Cold Start Thermal Unit, High Efficiency Urea Mixing, Close-Coupled Catalysts, Fabricated Manifolds, Lightweight Aftertreatment + Dosing and Full Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems contribute to mass reduction and efficient use and recovery of engine exhaust energy.

Acoustic Performance

Whether it is the rugged rumble of a sports car or the quiet hum of a limousine, each vehicle's acoustics are designed with a trademark "signature sound" in mind. Tenneco works with its customers to develop innovative solutions in sound design for exhaust systems, helping to define the brand characteristic sound of these vehicles.

Sound creation or cancellation technologies to enable passive and active noise management include Active Electronic Valves, Smart Sound, High-Performance Passive Valves and Cold End Systems.
